Pilgrimage Association - Fundraising - Associates

What does it mean?

All who are unable to go to Lourdes may join the Pilgrimage in spirit to honour Our Lady and present their petitions in union with the annual pilgrimage of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

The Apparitions

In 1858, in the hollow of the rock where the statue is now seen, the Blessed Virgin appeared 18 times to St. Bernadette Soubirous on:

  1. 11th & 14th February
  2. every day, except two, from 18th February to 4th March;
  3. 25th March;
  4. 7th April;
  5. 16th July.

On the 18th February, the Blessed Virgin said to the child:
‘Will you do me the favour of coming here for a fortnight…’
‘I do not promise to make you happy in this world, but the next.’
‘I wish people to come here.’

During the fortnight of apparitions, Our Lady said to her:

‘You shall pray for sinners; you shall kiss the earth for sinners.’
‘Penance, Penance, Penance.’
‘Go and tell the priests that I wish a church to be built here.’
‘I desire people go there in procession.’
‘Go to the spring, drink thereof, and wash yourself therein.’

On the 25th March, Our Lady said:
‘I am the Immaculate Conception.’

Prayers of the Association

Saint Bernadette,
as a meek, innocent child,
you were privileged to see eighteen times the Immaculate Mother of God,
and to be instructed by Her with many heavenly messages;
and as a religious at the Convent of Nevers,
you offered yourself as a victim for the conversion of sinners.
Obtain for us the grace to be pure of heart
and to love self-denial as you did,
that we may be found worthy to see God
and His Holy Mother in heaven.

O Holy Virgin,
in the midst of your days of glory,
do not forget the sorrows of this earth.
Cast a merciful glance upon those who are suffering,
struggling against difficulties,
with their lips constantly pressed against life’s bitter cup.
Have pity on those who love each other and are separated.
Have pity on our rebellious hearts.
Have pity on our weak faith.
Have pity on those we love.
Have pity on those who weep, on those who pray, on those who fear.
Grant hope and peace to all. Amen.

Jesus, Son of Mary, have pity on us.
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Health of the sick, pray for us.
O Mary, show thyself a mother to us.
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.
